China unfit to host 2008 games, try not turn this into another finger pointing game?

Maybe you all noticed, there's one super biased column on barometer
today, done by a kid from political science department.

Even being a person not interested in politics, I can see her naiveness
in interpreting fact or part of the fact in order to rush into her
conclusion.

I guess each of us as an individual or as a group has the right to
express our opinion on this topic, too. so maybe we should put together
a response and send it to barometer? someone want to coordinate?

here's the online version of the column

I also read this article. That gal is completely unaware of the really situation about China. She maybe just read some books/articles from few authors, put together a review and and then ridiculously came up with an idea that it's not appropriate for China to host Olympic Games.

But it's in America, people have the "right" to speak what they think, even if they are completely wrong or biased. What are we gonna do about it? If we stand up they may say we are against people's right to speak. Maybe we can only post comments on web.

Thank you, Wei Wu. I saw the article, and it is surely not one any Chinese would
be happy about. I know little about politics, but I do want to join you. We can
wait for more response. Thank you again.

En, I don't quite agree with you. They have the right to speak but they
don't have the right to point out the issue that might give rise to
discriminative actions against ours as a whole. Read the article
careful, she uses "China" "Chinese" instead of "Chinese Government" or
"Beijing". That's really annoying...

What occured to me is we are not against her or any person's right to speak. You
are exactly right that this is America, so we have our right to speak too.
Posting comment on web is a action to contact to her and change her opinion,
which I don't think is possible and necessary. The purpose of speaking on
barometer is to tell others we have our standpoint too.

And if we decide to do this, I'm highly recommend to calm down ourselves and be
in a high gesture. Don't be too political. Believe it's just a
misunderstanding. Come on, she's just a kid, give her a break. What we are
doing is that we feel responsible to speak out what we saw and believe to be
true.

Hi all,

I totally agree with Wu Wei and Wenchao. Zhen Jin, please take a look at the
definition of "Freedom of Speech" from Wikipedia-- "Freedom of speech is the
concept of the inherent human right to voice one's opinion publicly without
fear of censorship or punishment". What Wu Wei proposed was to "put together a
response and send it to barometer", which by no means would violate other
people's "Freedom of Speech". Please remember that we are also entitled the
freedom of speech. Stand UP Speak UP, people!

Please let me know if I can help with anything.

Hi there,
Oh, no. Don't get me wrong. I meant we can't point to that girl; she's just a sophomore. Instead we can speak our mind about this point of view.

I was hurry heading off to a class and didn't saw that "response to Barometer" part in Wu Wei's mail. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yeah, that's a brilliant idea. We definitely should do sth. in public press.

Hi there,

In my opinion, what we need is to give a DECENT response, not attacking anyone, just revealing facts.
Jin was just trying to suggest a way of response, some may think it's not proper (me too), but this is how we figure out a decent way.

We need to calm down, buddies. I suggest everybody not respond personally, cause it's not that easy to state properly. It should be a teamwork representing Chinese students here.
