Hi,
We have a group of middle and high school English teachers coming to the ELI
this summer on a State Department grant. They are part of a program that's in
forty-seven countries with a predominately Muslim population. This group is
from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Senegal, Togo, Bosnia & Herzegovina,
Kenya, Congo, India, Sri Lanka, West Bank, Turkey, Algeria, Israel, Gaza,
Lebanon, Morocco, Thailand, and Syria. They go into "non-elite" schools,
usually after their regular jobs are over,  to teach students that otherwise
wouldn't have a chance to learn English.

While the teachers are here learning about Best Practices in English teaching,
they are also going to meet with different groups on campus and in the
community to learn how people coming from very different backgrounds interact
and solve conflicts and generally about diversity in the States.

I know most OSU students may be gone this summer, but I thought it would be
great for the teachers to be able to have a discussion with the cultural groups
here on campus on these issues. if anyone from your organization would like to
be part of this discussion, please let me know. At this point we have it
scheduled for July 25 at 3:30-5:00, but it also could be July 27 at 3:30-5:00
if more people could come then.

I hope you can come get to know this interesting group of teachers.

Sincerely,
Tina
